Descriptive Memoir of the Insignia

The insignia of the Drave Rover Scout Centre is made up of four symbols (Sun, Valley, Summit, and Mountain) which together convey a set of meanings. This symbolism is central to understanding this project.

Through a simple representation yet rich in symbolism, the insignia aims to convey the spirit of the DRSC.

Summit

A summit represents a goal, something that, to reach, requires the effort of a journey and a sacrifice that is not always easy. Reaching that summit means attaining the culmination of a stage. It is also from that summit (as the result of the journey) that one can see further ahead and gain a broader perspective of what surrounds us.

Mountain

The mountain represents a place of encounter, with ourselves and with others. It is a space for sharing par excellence, where cultures and traditions interact.

Sun

It represents the light that separates the darkness. It is the ever-present presence that guides and directs us. It serves both as illumination and as a reference point for navigation. It is a symbol of a life that repeats itself without ever ending. It is the finest symbol not only of human immortality, but of the eternity of God, and it symbolizes the presence of God Himself over the world of humankind.

Valley

Set between two great rock walls, it provides the necessary shelter that comes with being exposed in prominent places.

We all need “our” own space, where rest is in harmony with shelter and sustenance. It represents a place to regain strength.

These elements are fundamental to understanding the DRSC, a place oriented above all towards Caminheiros/Companheiros/Aeronautas as they build the New Man.

Therefore, the insignia seeks, albeit in a very humble way, to represent that commitment through simple symbolism that carries a set of meanings of great value.
